At Microsun, our mission is to help people see better and continue doing what they enjoy, even as their eyesight begins to fade. We understand how frustrating diminishing eyesight can be, so we came up with a solution: lighting that is up to 10x brighter, full spectrum and 90+ CRI for enhanced color accuracy, and 4000K for superior contrast and detail.
Is 4000K or 6000K Color Temperature Lighting Better for Eye Health?
6000K lighting is bright and intense, making it a popular choice for contrast and clarity. However, 6000K sits on the cooler, bluer end of the color temperature spectrum, which means long-term exposure can negatively impact your eye health. Extended use may lead to eye dryness, fatigue, and discomfort due to the higher blue light presence.
Our vision naturally begins to decline as we age—a condition called presbyopia. As the American Academy of Ophthalmology explains, “Presbyopia is when your eyes gradually lose the ability to see things clearly up close. It is a normal part of aging. In fact, the term “presbyopia” comes from a Greek word which means “old eye.” You may start to notice presbyopia shortly after age 40, often finding yourself holding reading materials farther away to see them clearly.”
At Microsun, we developed a specialty lighting solution with proprietary bulbs and light arrays that produce color balanced 4000K light—eliminating excess blue light while maintaining exceptional brightness. Whether you want to illuminate your entire room or create perfect lighting for intricate crafts and hobbies, our technology ensures you have the clarity you need without eye strain. Seeing well in your home makes day-to-day life easier and more enjoyable, and that’s exactly why we created our lighting solutions.
Understanding CRI
CRI stands for Color Rendering Index, and it measures lighting’s ability to accurately replicate the colors of the objects it is illuminating. What is CRI measured against? The sun! Sunlight has a natural CRI of 100, meaning that it shows colors exactly as they should appear. That means the closer artificial light is to 100 CRI, the more accurately you will be able to see colors true to what they are.
The Science Behind CRI
Developed by the International Commission on Illumination (CIE) in the 1960s, CRI works by comparing how eight standard color samples appear under a test light source versus a reference illuminant. The scoring system ranges from 0 to 100, with higher scores indicating better color accuracy.
Here’s what the numbers mean in practical terms:
Why CRI Matters for Your Daily Life
The impact of poor CRI extends beyond aesthetics. Studies have shown that lighting with high CRI (above 90) can reduce eye strain during prolonged visual tasks and improve color discrimination accuracy by up to 20% compared to lower CRI sources. In retail environments, high-CRI lighting has been linked to increased sales, as customers can better evaluate product colors and quality.
Low-CRI lighting can make skin tones appear sallow or unnatural, turn vibrant reds into muddy browns, and cause blues and greens to blend together indistinguishably. This is why many people look washed out under traditional fluorescent lights, which typically have CRI values between 60-80.
Microsun Lamps and Superior Color Fidelity
At Microsun, we don’t settle for mediocre. For example, our Microsun Classic line is built with 90+ CRI, ensuring true-to-life color rendering that rivals natural sunlight. In addition to the high CRI, the Microsun Classic is also engineered with over 8,000 lumens, delivering unmatched clarity for everyday life.
We believe in the importance of eye health and helping our customers experience healthier, clearer, and brighter light so they can get the most out of their day-to-day lives. Our lamps were created with a multipurpose approach—they’re ideal for illuminating your home, brightening workspaces, or revealing the intricacies of your next hobby or DIY project.
Luminosity
Luminosity—measured in lumens—tells you how much total visible light a source emits. Think of it as the raw brightness power of your lamp. While a standard 60-watt incandescent bulb produces around 800 lumens, and most conventional table lamps output between 800-1,600 lumens, this level of light simply isn’t enough for many daily activities, especially as our eyes age.
Why Luminosity Matters
Science is clear: adequate light levels are essential for visual comfort and performance. Research shows that tasks requiring detailed work like reading fine print, threading needles, or examining crafts—benefit significantly from light levels of 5,000 lumens or higher. Below this threshold, your eyes strain to compensate for insufficient illumination, leading to fatigue, headaches, and decreased accuracy.
For adults over 40, the need for brighter light becomes even more critical. The aging eye requires approximately three times more light than a younger eye to see the same level of detail. This is because the lens naturally yellows and the pupil becomes less responsive with age, reducing the amount of light that reaches the retina.
The Microsun Difference: Power Meets Precision
This is where Microsun lamps truly shine. Our newest line, the MicrosunXL, delivers over 7,200 lumens—that’s eight times brighter than a standard lamp. But luminosity alone isn’t the whole story. What makes Microsun exceptional is how we deliver that brightness: through our TruFull™ spectrum technology that combines high-output lumens with 90+ CRI.
The result? You get the volume of light your eyes need (luminosity & contrast) with the quality of light they deserve (color accuracy). Whether you’re reading the morning paper, working on intricate embroidery, or simply want to see your home in its truest colors, Microsun provides the illumination that makes every detail visible without the eye strain that typically comes with standard lighting.
Our customers consistently report the same revelation: ‘It’s like working outside in sunlight’—and that’s exactly what we’ve engineered our lamps to replicate. Because when it comes to your vision, you shouldn’t have to compromise on brightness or quality. With Microsun, you get both.
